Congratulations to Connan McStay of Portraits by Pear Tree who have achieved their first Baby of the Month winning entry!
Connan’s image of baby Harry proved popular with our photographer, mum and sponsor judging panels and Harry will soon receive a £50 Boots voucher, plus the chance to win £5000 in the 2023 Baby of the Year competition.
As it’s their first win in our competition, we caught up with owners Connan and Lisa to learn more about the studio:
“Connan and I first opened our photography studio in the summer of 2014 having worked for over 20 years in the Film and TV industry. Connan worked on many amazing feature films and TV shows as a senior editor which included ‘The Kings Speech’, ‘Death Comes to Pemberley’, Little Britain’, ‘Birdsong’, The Village’, and ‘Mr Turner’. He has always had a passion for photography and his attention to detail is off the charts! He brings passion and creativity to every photoshoot, pushes creative boundaries continually and is always refining his techniques to be a better photographer.
Our small but cosy studio is positioned in the gorgeous village of Grayshott, near Haslemere, not far from Farnham. We have clients travelling 30+ miles to come to our studio as we offer a magical experience. We put so much love and attention into everything we do from the first point of contact to when the clients arrive to collect their products. We nurture our clients along the way so they are fully prepared for their session and we help to calm any nerves that may arise.
We have three AMAZING photographers including Connan, who is our principal photographer and joint director, Alex Crane who is our specialist Newborn Photographer and Sara Bajwa. We specialise in family photography, maternity photography, newborn photography and Commercial photography.
Our commercial photography has taken Connan all over Europe, photographing Companies, buildings and business headshots. He jokes about it being a ‘hard life’ when he’s on the road but we all know how much he loves travelling to new places. He adores photographing people and babies but he also has a real passion for structural photography and the great outdoors. On his days off he will spend hours hiking and taking stunning photos of his travels.
We’ve been entering Baby of the Month for just over one year, so it was truly amazing to win this month, it means so much to us. We are so happy this image won, it was such a lovely photoshoot. Baby Harry was on top form, full of smiles and chuckles and his expressions were gorgeous as you can see from the winning image!”

We had our photoshoot this morning, we can’t recommend Portraits by Pear Tree enough. We felt very relaxed and were made to feel very comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed the shoot. Can’t wait to see the pictures!!
