First win of 2017 for Dermot Murphy!
Congratulations to Dermot Murphy of Dermot Murphy Photography for achieving his first win of 2017 in the Baby of the Month competition. Dermot’s image of Baby Ronan into the March competition was a firm favourite with our mum’s judging panel as well as on Facebook.
Here’s what Dermot had to say about his win: “Every baby is a miracle but this one is extra special. This wee dude has been a lifeline for his Mum during her recovery from a life-threatening condition which meant she had to learn to walk and talk again. Such a good news story for her to win after the trauma she has been through”
Ronan’s mum contacted Dermot after a trip to Mothercare: “Just back from a wee shopping trip ☺. Thanks so much for everything! You made the whole process so easy and the results are amazing.”

Dermot has been taking photographs as long anyone can remember but it was not until the birth of his fourth child that he decided that life was too short to work because you had to, and broke the news that he was going full time as a photographer.
That proved to be the catalyst to push him on to achieve rewards he had never dreamt of, like winning Northern Ireland Photographer of the Year in 2013.
The business, which is family owned and operated, is dedicated to serving the needs of all its customers, has grown from strength to strength and morphed into one, which specializes in all things “baby”.
Dermot’s wife Catherine (who has nursing, teaching and day nursery management on her CV) is known as “the Baby Whisperer” and is a natural with babies, so they make a great team. 90% of the studio’s clients are bumps babies and children as the reputation they have gained is as one of the top newborn photographers in the country.
“Babies are our passion” says Dermot. “How many people can honestly say that they love what they do? We are happiest when we see the reaction on a mother’s face when we have captured the essence of what makes that baby her baby! They most definitely don’t look all the same to me!”
“Everyone has a camera in their pocket but that doesn’t make them a professional photographer. We have a lovely cooker at home, but it doesn’t make me a chef!”
Despite being a renowned baby photographer, Dermot also photographs families and tries very hard to make everyone feel at ease and guarantees you will be delighted with the results! The spacious, comfortable studio is centrally located close to Queens University in Belfast on south Belfast’s Malone Road. It is two minutes’ walk from the centre of Belfast, so is great for families who want to combine their session with a day out in town.
